It is always a joy to be able to visit with our supporting churches and share the Lord’s blessings over the past four years. The majority of our churches are in the southeast not to far from our home but some of our churches are a little farther out. Recently I made a trip out to Kansas to visit one of our supporting churches and also a new church. When I left it was around 70 degrees but when I got to Kansas city they had 5 inches of snow. I was able to make out to Manhattan Kansas to be with the Harvest Baptist Church on Sunday morning and then returned back to Kansas City and visited the Eagle Heights Baptist Church that night. I had a wonderful time with both churches and am very grateful for all that was provided during my stay. When I left Kansas City it was a balmy 34 degrees and when I arrived back to Atlanta Ga it was 74. Needless to say I was glad to be back with the warmer weather.

Wednesday Night

This past Wednesday we had a great time with the Faith Baptist Church near North Wilksboro NC. My mom was actually down visiting us so she accompanied us to the meeting and actually played the piano for us. I was able to tell all the stories about when I was little and had a way to prove it. Everyone seem to enjoy the meeting, even Titus. He was in the service with us and there happened to be ladybugs flying around. Every time one would come close to him he would scream out “bug bug bug”. It made for an eventful night. We are thankful to the church and Pastor Williams for the opportunity to go a share our burden for Bolivia.

For Married People Only

The title doesn’t refer to this post but to the meeting that we had this past Friday with the married couples from our home church. There were close to 20 that came not counting the children that were upstairs playing. This was the first time that they have had any type of meeting like this but I think they all enjoyed it. We had not only members of the church but some who have recently visited the church and also some who were just friends not part of the church. In all we had a great time of fellowship, games and we learned about what the main purpose of marriage is and how a lack of forgiveness can hinder that. We hope to have more of these meetings in the near future so if you are interested just let me know.

Traveling

This past week we were able to visit the Northview Baptist Church with Pastor Brook Grimes. We drove down to Fayetteville NC on Wednesday morning to speak to the Christian School Chapel. They had a great group of kids that were very attentive and interested in our work. Then that afternoon we were able to spend some time with the pastor before the evening service. Pastor Grimes and the church were a great blessing to us and we enjoyed our time with them even though it was short.

Exciting Opportunity and the Lord’s Blessings

As you might have already heard from out last prayer letter we are beginning a very exciting project for our ministry in Bolivia. The church there was started about four and a half years ago and the Lord has greatly blessed it. Our desire at this time is to purchase a piece of land that we can build a church building on. This is a great step of faith but we know this will be a huge step toward the church becoming autonomous and self-supporting. Right now the church rent is much more than they could possibly pay on their own. This may be hard to understanding until you realize that the minimum wage in Bolivia is about 600 bolivianos or $85 a month. We want to let you know that you can have a vital part in this special project. First of all we would like to ask you to pray for several things.

#1. For the church and leaders in Bolivia.

#2. That the Lord would give us wisdom as we step out by faith.

#3. That the Lord will provide the needed funds for this project.

While we are just in the beginning stages the Lord is already blessing. We have a supporting church in Florida that has given $500 towards the land and another church that will be taking an offering during their mission’s conference. Going Crazy

This week I started the process of getting our birth and marriage certificates legalized for Bolivia. So that the Bolivian government will recognize our certificates there in Bolivia they have to go through what I am finding out to be a very long and expensive process. We already went through this process before but then it was much much easier. Just to give you an idea first the certificates has to have the seal and signature of the secretary of the state in which it was issued, which is different for each of us and Taylor was born over seas so she has no state. This was close to $100 Then they all have to be translated and signed by a Notary. This is around $250. Then each one has to be sent back to their perspective states to have the translation authenticated. This also is close to $100. Then they all have to be sent to the Department of State of the US. I have no idea how much that will cost. Then finally they are sent to the Bolivian Consulate in Washington DC to be legalized. That will be over $500. As you can see it is enough to drive you crazy. Please pray for us.

Back at it

This past week we started our traveling again as we were in a mission’s conference at Lowe Memorial Baptist Church in Burlington NC. The conference was from Sunday till Wednesday. The pastor of the church is actually Beth’s great uncle and the church is already one of our supporters. This is also the first time that the church has had an extended conference like this with several missionaries in for the conference. It was a great conference and not only did we thoroughly enjoy it but I think that the people also enjoyed it. We are grateful for all that the church provided for us while there and to have a church like this one that faithfully prays for us.

Investing in Eternity:

There is no greater investment than one that will last for eternity. Well, that is the type of investment that Christ gives us the opportunity to be a part of when we invest in the lives of people. From the time we arrived in Bolivia, our desire has been to plant indigenous, autonomous churches. One of the steps, to accomplish that goal, is to help the church become financially self-supporting. When we return to Bolivia in June, our desire is to be able to purchase a piece of land and build a building for the church there to help them get one step closer to that goal. If they could eliminate the rent that has to be paid they would almost be able to pay their own bills. After checking on prices of land and construction, we are looking at around $80,000 to get started. I know this seems like an insurmountable task especially with the economy the way it is, but we know that we serve the God of the impossible. If the Lord would lead you to have a part in helping us purchase a piece of land and build, you could have a part in investing in the future of lives in Bolivia. Only eternity will tell the impact of establishing an indigenous church that can reproduce itself in Bolivia. You may ask how are we going to be able to accomplish that goal? It’s like the old saying: “How do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time”. You may be able to give a large amount or only a small amount, but everything counts and is an investment that will last for eternity. Will you pray with us about investing in the lives in Bolivia? Pray for Bolivia:

We would like to ask you to pray for Bolivia and especially the government there. Many things have been taking place recently that are of concern to us. From the time the current government was put in place they have been anti American and anti religion. Up until this point, we have not had any direct impact on our ministry or us being there, but things are changing little by little. A little over two years ago the US Ambassador was expelled from the country and still has not been replaced. Just a few weeks ago, a Catholic Bishop in our city, made a comment about the drug trade and was expelled from the country. This resulted in new laws being passed with the desire to be able to investigate and tax all properties of the churches, which includes us. There have also been other instances like Christian Schools being regulated and the Adventist University being closed. We pray often for those leaders in government and the church there because we know that the Lord is the one who raises up and takes down. We trust in Him that His will be done.

For the sake of His name:

This past weekend we had the privilege to attend the Our Generation Summit in Pigeon Forge TN. The theme this year was “For the sake of His name”. Every year at the Summit the focus is getting the gospel to a world lost without Christ. Our motivation for reaching the world with the gospel should not be to build a name for ourselves, but it is all for the sake of His name. Along with the great preaching times, there were classes for everyone, from missionaries to pastors to laymen in the church. This year was one of the best conferences that we have had with the highest attendance since it started. It was a great blessing to be there with many other missionaries from around the world with the same heart and desire to reach the world with the gospel. If you were not able to attend this year, I hope you will make plans next year so that you won’t miss out.

Pray for Isaac, Pablo, Jose and Felix who are our leaders in the church in Bolivia.
Pray for the government of Bolivia and that the church won’t be affected.
Pray that the Lord will provide the needed funds to purchase land in Bolivia.

Pray for Bolivia

This was the scene the other day in Bolivia. Although it is not uncommon to see lines at the gas pumps because of shortages this was a little more serious. The government announced December the 26th that there would be a gas hike of 85%. Even though gas is much cheaper in Bolivia than in the US this is significant when the average wage is less than $100 a month. There were strikes and violence for a week until the government retracted their proposal and everything returned to normal.

More concerning to us than this episode is what has been occurring with the churches in Bolivia. A few weeks ago, the Arch Bishop of the Catholic church in our city made a comment about children being used in drug trafficking and the government made a decree to have him expelled from the country. Because of this, there is a law in the works that will allow the government to investigate and tax all properties and income of the church. The problem is, that they don’t see a difference between the Catholic church and other churches like ours. So far, it hasn’t had any direct impact on us, but this could affect our church and ultimately lead to the government controlling the churches. They are already regulating Christian Schools and have closed the local Adventist University. Please pray for the church and ministry there and that His name will continue to be lifted on high.
