Operation Bolivia

The Bible says in the book of Proverbs that a friend loveth at all times and there is no greater friend that we can have than the Lord Jesus Christ. Through the friendships that we can make with others here we can also introduce them to this best friend they will ever know. This past Sunday the 22nd of July we had here in Bolivia friendship day. For this day we had a banquet in the church so that everyone could invite their friends and family for this special day. We were praying for 100 people but planning for a few more than that for the banquet. Many people were invited and much preparation was put into making this day especial. On Sunday we started with the church mostly full and by the time we finished we had 122 in attendance. Many people were visiting for the first time and also hearing the gospel for the first time. During the invitation we had several professions of faith and three families that told us they had been looking for a church in our area. This was truly a wonderful day and we anticipate the fruit that we will see in the future from the seed that was planted. Please pray as we follow up on the contacts and the friendships that were made.

We received another Email on Monday from one of our supporting churches that is giving $500 towards the land in Cobija. With this commitment we now only need $300 to cover the cost of purchasing the land. What a blessing it to see the Lord work. Today we were able to send the paper work to Cobija to hopefully finalize the purchase this coming week. Please pray that everything will go smoothly with this process. We now need only 12 more to commit to give $500 to be able to purchase the land and build them a church building.

We just received a phone call from a pastor letting us know that their church and a family in their church has committed to give $500 each toward purchasing the land in Cobija. That brings the total to $3200 now promised and leaves only $800 to reach our goal in the first stage of this project. It has been amazing to see how the Lord has worked and how when we step out by faith trusting Him He provides for us. We now only need 13 more to give $500 so that we can finish both stages of establishing this church here in Bolivia. Please continue to pray for the Lord’s blessing.

Just wanted to let you know that we received another Email today from someone commiting to be one of the 20 to give $500 for the land in Cobija. Praise the Lord!!! That brings the total promised to $2200 and only leaves $1800 to meet our goal. Also that means we only need 15 more to commit to be able to finish both stages of the project. We praise the Lord for His blessings and the way He is working. Today we received an Email from someone committing to be one of the 20 to give $500 for the need in Cobija. That brings the total to $1700 promised for the purchase of the land leaving only $2300 to finish the first stage of this project. That also brings us down to only needing 16 more who will commit to give $500 to finish both projects. Thank you so much for your prayers and willingness to be used by the Lord to help reach the people of Bolivia with the gospel.

We praise the Lord for the response that we have had and for those who are praying and who have a desire to help us purchase land and build a church here in the city of Cobija Bolivia. So you can better pray and understand I would like to explain a little more about this work and how it relates to our ministry here in Bolivia. We were able help see this church started in 2005 while we were in language school. Since that time it has been one of our works here in Bolivia and under our care and responsibility spiritually and economically. The relationship that we have with this church is the same as the churches that we will start in the future with the pastors that we train. We are praying and working hard so that this church might have a stable place to meet.

We also praise the Lord for those that have already committed to or shared with us their desire to help with this project. We now have $1200 promised toward the land in Cobija which leaves only $2800 left to meet our goal. With only five days remaining until the 23rd you might be asking how is the money going to get to us before that date. Well the Lord has blessed in allowing us to get a short term interest free loan to purchase the land until we receive the money this coming month. This is a great victory but with that in mind we ask that you continue to pray that we might be able to reach our goal of $4000 by the end of this month. That gives us just under two weeks to hear from you so that we can finish the first stage in this building project. We pray that you might consider being one of the 17 left to give $500 so that we can complete the entire project of buying land and building a church building in Cobija.

 As we know one of Christ main objectives while here on earth was to make disciples. This we can see by the last command that he gave to his disciples to go out and reach others and train them to do the same. We know that all our effort here in Bolivia will be in vain if we do not train disciples or leaders that can continue the work after we are gone. We praise the Lord for the way He has been working in the lives of many people in the church who are now stepping forward with a desire to serve Him. In the past month we have started teaching and discipling many of these new people. We have had to split into four groups with me and my wife Beth and Jorge and his wife Jenny sharing the responsibility. Our wives our working with several of the ladies from the church while Jorge and I are working with around four to five families or individuals each. This is truly a great blessing to see the hunger that many of them have for learning more of God’s word and how they are growing in the Lord. Our desire through all this is that the Lord might call out from this group the future leaders of the churches here in Bolivia. Please pray that we might see even more step forward and that those whom we are working with might in the near future be able to disciple others.

Even before the first time we set foot on Bolivian soil we had a desire to take the gospel to each and every town and city. We also knew to do that would take some extraordinary things from an extraordinary God. The same as when the red sea opened and the children of Israel crossed over, or when the walls of Jericho came tumbling down after they marched around seven times. The God that did it for Israel is the same God that we serve today. We have truly seen the Lord do great things here in Bolivia especially in reaching out to other towns and cities. As many of you know, one of the works that we have is in the northern part of Bolivia in a town called Cobija. The work there has been advancing well and the church has been growing. The only obstacle that they have faced up till now is having a place to meet. They have had to move from one rented place to another of course affecting those who come. The Lord has now opened the doors for us to purchase a lot where a church building can be built for them. The land is about 350 square meters or about 3800 square feet. Because the land there is selling so quickly, trusting the Lord we have committed to the purchase the land, and ask that you would pray that He will supply the needed funds. The project is going to be in two stages. First we will be purchasing the land which the owner has given us until the 23 of July to pay for. Then we will be constructing a small church building for them to meet in. Their lease runs out where they are currently meeting in September so the construction will need to be mostly completed by then. In all, the cost for both stages is going to be between ten to twelve thousand dollars. We ask you to pray with us for the $5200 that we need by the 23rd for the first stage of this project. The church in Cobija has been able to save $1500 which is an extraordinary amount considering the average income is around $100 a month. We are praying for 20 churches or individuals that would commit to giving a one time gift of $500 and that would cover all the expenses needed to finish the project. We ask that you would pray with us about being one of those 20 or for what the Lord might have you to do because no gift is too small. .
